Dear Fellow Xbox 360
Enthusiasts,
My name is Dave and I'm
addicted to my Xbox 360. This is really not a joke,
I spend every spare moment of free time on my Xbox
playing my favorite games (Halo 3, Gears of War 2,
Resident Evil 5, etc.). A while back, my life
was rocked when my Xbox 360 suddenly suffered the
dreaded "red ring of death". If you are
not familiar with this, three flashing lights appear
on your Xbox which means hardware failure! I spent several days
trying to decide what the heck to do.
First I researched
online. I tried the "towel trick". That didn't help.
Then I looked on Microsoft's site. The problem was
covered by warranty, but I was shocked when I read
that I would be without my console for up to 2
months. No freaking way man!
Then a few
days later, I found the solution!
I read some reviews in
some popular Xbox 360 gamer forums about a new
service called
Xbox 360 Red Light Fix
Pro Gamer Edition. I visited the site and
learned they provide a helpful, step-by-step video
(and written) guide for how to fix the problem. I
decided to give it a try. Boy was I glad I did. I
fixed the problem in a little less than two hours (with a
few snack breaks in between). I was very impressed
with the HD quality video in the member's area. It
really provided step-by-step instructions for doing
everything.
Note: Please
keep in mind, I am not a tech expert by any means.
I've never fixed a computer, repaired any electronic
device or even changed a tire on my car for that
matter. Trust me, if I can follow their directions
and fix the problem...anyone can!
Here's a screenshot of their website:

Ok, so let's recap
everything you have learned here on this page. If
your Xbox 360 has red flashing lights on it, that
means your hardware has failed. Here are your
options when this happens:
-
Option One: Send
your console to Microsoft to get it fixed. If
your warranty has expired, this will cost you
$140 plus shipping plus 6-8 weeks without your
Xbox 360. If you do have a warranty, you still
have to pay shipping AND suffer an agonizing
month and a half to two months without playing
games. To make matters worse, you might not even
get you console back. You could get a
refurbished model and suffer the same problem a
few months later. Does this sound like a real
option? No way, right?
-
Option Two: Contact
someone locally to fix your Xbox. I spent about
three hours one day calling computer repair
companies in my local area (there were no Xbox
repair companies or video game repair
companies). Not one offered a service to help.
This is not an option in most areas.
-
Option Three: Try
one of the many hacks and tricks available
online. These include the "towel trick" and the
"soldering trick". First of all, in my
experience the towel trick did not work (and
some online gamers say it can catch your console
on fire!). The "soldering trick" is scary as
heck to me. I'm afraid I would mess my unit up
even worse.
-
Option Four: Buy a
new Xbox 360 console. Some people decide to buy
a new Xbox while they ship their old one back to
Microsoft for repairs. Their plan is to return
the new one when the old one gets back and is
fixed. This can be risky. First of all, most all
retailers now have "restocking fees" of around
10 to 15 percent of the purchase price for
opened returned items (even with a receipt).
Secondly, many retailers only offer a 30-45 day
return policy. It can take Microsoft 45-60 days
to return your old unit. You could be stuck with
two Xbox 360's. This option will get you back up
and running, but will cost you a small fortune!
-
Option Five: Buy a
lifetime membership to
Xbox 360 Red Light Fix Pro
Gamer Edition for a one time
fee of just $29. You use their HD-caliber,
easy-to-follow videos to fix the problem
yourself and have your Xbox 360 working again in
about two hours. If you are unable for any
reason to get the problem fixed, you get your
money back with no questions asked. This option
has
ZERO risk and tremendous upside (and
best of all, it works!).
